In the perimeter of the trees, sacred to every faith, connecting cosmos and earth is the sod, the body. The perimeter contains water, dew, ice and snow, springs and rivers and bodies of water with fish. When the foot adheres bare to the landforms it is a diaphragm. The breath marks the pauses in small squares, like those of the neuma in Gregorian chant. At the four corners of the perimeter the Mediterranean words for rest in the shade of the trees of men and animals.
